Blogger’s Quilt Festival – Megan & Madison’s Woven Double Wedding Ring

It’s that time again! Time for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival at Amy’s Creative Side!

Fall-BQF-Button

Welcome to anyone who is here for the first time!

This is my fourth time entering a quilt in this lovely online quilt festival. For this fall festival, I am showing a quilt I completed in May of 2012 as a wedding gift for my niece and her (now) husband. The pattern is Woven Double Wedding Ring by Linda Worland of Paper Panache. This is entirely paper pieced. The original pattern is for a 40″ X 40″ quilt, but I wanted something two people could snuggle under. Linda gave me permission to make extra pieces to accomplish this and I spent a great deal of time figuring out exactly which pieces I needed to print in what quantity to make the quilt 80″ X 80″. This was the first paper piecing I had ever done. I think it came out pretty well, once I remembered that I needed to quadruple the amount of fabric instead of just doubling it because we were talking area. (By the way, the fabrics are all batiks. It is very scrappy also, due to my original math error.)

It was quilted by a local quilter and quilt shop owner, Rhonda Loy. Here it is on the railing in my living room:

And here are the happy couple holding it up a couple days before the wedding:

Quilt on!

Oooooh, I’ve never seen a WR quilt quite like it! I love the twisty effect that shows up in the second photo. Great job!

They look so happy with it! It’s lovely, and the scrappiness is absolutely successful. πŸ˜€
