Did You Notice?

Yes, it is Thursday morning and there was no Books on Monday this week. I’m so sorry. I can guarantee that there will be no Books on Monday next Monday, which is Memorial Day here in the USA. Sorry about that. I just didn’t get to it this week and no there will be no time before next Monday as I’m trying to get the church quilt top pieced. Desperately trying. And, of course, there are always little things that crop up that need to be redone before I can finish this top.

If that sounds like I’m a little tired of this, yeah, I am. I think this may be the last church quilt I head up for many different reasons. And, yes, I think I say that every year, but I’ve started saying it earlier than usual this year so maybe it will stick. I do think that this year’s quilt will be pretty special. We’ve tried to make one that will go in any color scheme and that will look traditional and modern. We made a smaller quilt than we were hoping to because not all the blocks came back, but it is still a queen-sized quilt. I’m very happy with the border fabric we found too. Now if I can just get it all together so we can start hand quilting it…

I’m still making progress on the wedding quilt, but I have a ways to go. No pictures until it is done at this point.

I also got the charm squares from the Twilter swap that is officially my first swap ever. Here is a look at some of them. I didn’t untie the nicely tied stacks because I don’t have time to play with them yet. But here are some pictures of some of the goodies.

Don’t they look like fun?! Tina (the organizer) threw in the lovely crocheted spool washer (or some more elegant name that I can’t think of right now!) and the free motion quilting gloves. Since it is one of my goals in the near future is to really learn to free motion quilt, these will come in handy. And now I know why she was asking “lime green or orange”.

I need to get back to work on the church quilt now so

Quilt on!

  1. I was wondering where you were. I couldn’t put my finger on what was going on but, yes, I did miss your post. I think it is wise to take a break from the church quilt. If you decide to do it again in a few years, you will feel refreshed and the quilt will reflect that. Don’t add stress to your life. If this activity isn’t nourishing your soul, stop it. It may not get done, but that means that it isn’t important to the group as a whole. If it is only important to you, I think you can just make a quilt of your own to donate more quickly and more precisely than the way you have described the group quilt. JMO!

    Take care!

  2. I also did miss your usual post Gretchen, it became some kind of routine to sit down and read it on Monday mornings 🙂 And I totally agree with what Jaye just said!
