I Have a Duh! Moment

If you read the comment on my last post from Pat from 501 Blocks, maybe you had the same duh! moment I did. Of course that would be the best way to sew these together! Duh! Duh! (In my own defense, Marsha McCloskey’s Block Party: A Quilter’s Extravaganza of 120 Rotary-Cut Block Patterns (Rodale Quilt Book) doesn’t really give detailed directions for sewing this table runner together. Well, I confess to not having read them VERY carefully – but they really weren’t detailed.)

So today I tried that plan on the next section of the table runner. Yes, I was too lazy to take the stitching out of the other sections. Hopefully it will press out really well. I promise to try that before adding the borders in case I have to rip it out and resew. I also need to cut out two more triangles for the end of the table runner, but here is how it looks (only finger pressed) so far.

  1. I think I would have treated the middle blocks like a “square in a square” center and sewn fabric to the 4 corners and then trimmed them off. I love Jodi Barrows “Square in a Square” ruler for that kind of stuff, even if you do end up with lots of scrap fabric from all the trimming. Makes piecing them together really easy.

I love the fabric of your blocks! I think either way, your table runner will look great in the end.
