Weekend Update

Yeah, I’m about 45 minutes away from Saturday Night LIve (and bedtime), but I thought I’d just mention a little bit that got done this weekend and last.

First, last weekend. The Tumbler Quilt for my son-in-law’s birthday gift got finished. Yay! I don’t have an excellent picture because it is pretty long (son-in-law is tall) and since it hasn’t yet been delivered, no one here is tall enough to really hold it up well. Here is what I have though:

Here it is sort of styling on a chair, and below is the quilt being held up by my husband.

These are masculine looking colors, but my son-in-law’s favorite color is purple. I did a scrappy binding from batik jelly roll strips and snuck in a couple with purple along with the greens and browns.

I just machine quilted around the tumblers so it is nice and puffy. I also took it to my most LQS to enter it in the UFO finishing contest. Now I just need to deliver it to my son-in-law.

I sort of avoided the sewing room for lots of this week. Next up for every project I’m working on was cutting, and we all know how I hate cutting. But today I got down there and worked on Jinny Beyer’s Craftsy BOM. Not only did I have fabric to cut, but I had to make templates and use them. Here they are:

Once I cut all the reserve fabrics and the first block I decided that (unlike Jinny Beyer) I would piece this one on my machine. I already have two quilts I’m working on hand piecing, so I didn’t think I needed to add another one. So I’m all caught up on this BOM, and here is the finished block:IMG_2526

So, that is all I got done today. I’m hoping to work on cutting Scrap in a Box, a mystery quilt, and piecing the first step. I’m also 3 blocks behind on the Fat Quarter Shop 2014 Designer Mystery BOM, so I’d like to get those all pieced by the time the next one comes in February. Sigh.

And I’d like to get back to some hand quilting. I guess I’d better

Quilt on!
