Books on Monday – Jane Austen Quilts Inspired by Her Novels

This week we are looking into Jane Austen Quilts Inspired by Her Novels by Karen Gloeggler. And, yes, the link below is an Amazon Affiliate link.

This book is a little different than most of the books I look at. The quilts inside are all inspired in one way or another by Jane Austen, and there is even some biographical information about Jane Austen. (Apparently she was a bit of a fabric collector in spite of having made only one quilt.) The first quilt is inspired by the one quilt that Jane Austen made herself and the rest are inspired by her novels.

Another difference is that there is no “how to make a quilt” section. There is, however, a section of tips from the author.

The sections are as follows:

  1. Introduction: Lacking Sense and Sensibility
  2. Jane Austen, Fabriholic
  3. Jane Austen’s Family, Friends, Characters and Estates
  4. Projects
  5. Karen’s Sewing Tips
  6. Resources
  7. Bibliography (not something you see every day in a quilt book!)
  8. About the Author

The quilt patterns have variations which is a nice touch. I also really enjoyed reading the biographical bits and parts of Jane’s letters. (Little squares are a recurring theme in the project designs.) There is quite a bit of variety in the projects, including some with kind of crazy quilt touches. Check it out and
