Books on Monday – Modern Neutrals

This week we are looking at Modern Neutrals: A Fresh Look at Neutral Quilt Patterns by Amy Ellis of Amy’s Creative Side, home of the Blogger’s Quilt Festival. (The following image is an Amazon Affiliate link.)

Yes, that word is modern. And neutrals. And, yes, I am the person who loves bright colors. What is my excuse here? Three words – the cover quilt. I have been admiring this quilt (and therefore the book, of course) for a few months now and finally just bit the bullet and bought it. I’ve marked several quilts that I might want to make someday in the future. Maybe I’ll even do some in neutrals. Hee hee.

Okay, on to the book information. Let’s look at the book sections.

  1. Introduction – This is very brief! One column type of brief
  2. Neutrals in Your Stash – Three columns of information about choosing neutrals.
  3. Projects – There are fifteen of them! Jump right in! There are some notes and tips scattered throughout.
  4. Quiltmaking Basics .
  5. Acknowledgments
  6. About the Author

So go check out the Look Inside at Amazon to see more of the quilts from this book!

  1. I have the book and it does have some nice patterns. I expected more information / instruction on selecting neutral fabrics, what makes a neutral quilt, how to keep your pallet low key. I expected more instruction and information.

I think this is the big draw back to buying on line. The thing is local quilt shops are NOT MODERN and rarely carries any modern fabric let alone books. I like to look thru a book before I buy…. it Buying on line buying is like a SHOT IN THE DARK. I do get a lot of books that are nice enough but really do not fit the needs I have.

    OH WELL BUYER BEWARE.
