Today’s Books on Monday topic is Simplify: Quilts for the Modern Home by Camille Roskelley. And, yes, that link below is my Amazon affiliate link as usual.
Let me start by saying that I never met a Bonnie and Camille fabric line I didn’t like. Yep, it’s true.
Let me also say that over the past few weeks as I have read and reviewed these books, I have realized that I really like making quilts with fiddly little pieces that require severe precision. (You can not even understand how thrilled I was when the Wedding Quilt turned out to be exactly the size it was supposed to be!) It’s not that I don’t like the look of modern quilts – I love the clean simple lines. I just don’t find them fun to make. (If you’ve seen this book before, you know where this is going.) And that is what the quilts in this book are. I marked two that I might want to make, but I am guessing I really won’t make either of them.
That being said, I love the tone of this book. Her writing is very conversational and friendly. Her directions are clear and easy to understand. And her color choices really appeal to me. (No surprise there!!!) If you are a modern quilter, this is a book that you will enjoy. If you are a beginning or a newbee quilter, this book is an excellent choice. In addition to directions on how to quilt and the directions for each pattern, this book includes tips from Camille and quotes from others about how to simplify your life.
And now for a bonus – what I’m calling a quilting life lesson:
The quilts you appreciate when you look at them are not always the quilts you enjoy making.
