Wasted Week

I have been totally useless this week. No progress on quilts. Nothing exciting here. Nothing.

Why? Well, I’ve been dealing with some burn damage to my face – a reaction to some night cream I tried that included Retinol. At least, my doctor and I think that’s what it was. I’m assured that mine was the worst reaction she’s ever seen and that, of course, not everyone has an adverse reaction to Retinol. That being said, I would still recommend researching how it works before you ever try it. One of the things that can happen is that it can make your skin thinner. This concerns me because everyone’s skin thins as they age (really age – like 80) so using something that thins your skin even more (and earlier) might not be such a good idea.

Okay, so much for my public service announcement. Today my face is cleared up enough that I’m headed out for some grocery shopping. (Except for my doctor visit, I have not been out of this house since Sunday!) I need some snacks for the Thirty-One Bags party I’m hosting tomorrow. I wish you could all join us!

And just so you know, the Books on Monday feature will be continuing for a long time. I hit the C & T Publishing spring sale last week and got several books for $5 and $10 each, books I had been very interested in! I can’t wait for them to get here! (I may also throw in a few fiction reviews every once it a while!)

On a different note, I’ve been thinking about starting a podcast. Actually, I’ve been thinking about it for years, but I never know what I’d say. I’m not much of a talker, after all. But I’m still kicking it around in my head. We’ll see.

And just so I have a picture here, look what arrived yesterday. It may be a future (not too distant, I hope) squirrel.

  1. I’m glad you’re doing better, and considering being a podcaster. You have much to offer, Gretchen, so I hope you do.

  2. Gretchen, I’m so sorry about what happened to your face! Hope it wasn’t hurting too much! I’m so glad you’re doing those book reviews, somehow I find myself struggling with writing book reviews. Don’t know why.
I’d thrilled if you started a podcast! I have the same urge, but have no idea what I’d be talking about! I didn’t get to do a lot of sewing this week either, but trying to make it up for it now! 🙂

  3. I would listen to your podcast, Gretchen! The good thing about retirement is that we can waste a week now and then if we need or want to. Glad your face is better.

  4. Gretchen, So sorry about the burns! You are right about the PSA! I have been toying with the idea of talking to my doctor about retinol (heard about it from listening to a determatologist), but will definitely re-think that idea! I hope you heal quickly – hugs! I sure hope you start a podcast!! I would love to listen! o:)
